Ben Heine is one of my favorite artists who is widely known for his Pencil vs. Camera series. A multi-talented individual who is an illustrator, portraitist, painter, photographer and a former activist who has also studied journalism and graphic arts.

Few months back we featured an exclusive interview with Ben, where he talks about his inspirations, his story, work process, his past and future projects, where he did give us hint about his latest "Art Official Concept" by saying, " I will not explain in details, but my current dream project would be to go in a foreign country and make something creative with a local community."

We are glad that Ben did manage to complete his dream project for an art gallery in Cape Verde, an island country in Western Africa.

The Latest Mobile Phone Technology

http://www.funrocker.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/HTC-Mondrian-Latest-HTC-HD7-Mobile-Technology-FunRocker.Com-02.jpg

The latest mobile phone handsets provide a wide range of services and technology that allows the user to be as interactive as possible with the global community. These new mobile technologies offer the user accessibility to the worldwide web via WiFi connectivity, download and transfer large amounts of data via high speed connectivity and find a location via satellite with mobile Global Positioning Systems (GPS) devices.
Todays mobile phones have now evolved to incorporate all types of online activity, here is a little breakdown of some of the latest technology to grasp the mobile market.

WiFi Technology

What is Wi-Fi?

WiFi is a wireless technology brand owned by the Wi-Fi Alliance intended to improve the operating of wireless products. Common applications for Wi-Fi include Internet and VoIP phone access, gaming, and network connectivity for consumer electronics such as mobile phones, laptops, game consoles, MP3 players and PDA's. Wi-Fi also allows connectivity which enables devices to connect directly with each other. This connectivity mode is useful in consumer electronics and gaming applications.
It's faster and has a greater range than Bluetooth, and is ideal for home or office connectivity. In the near future, wireless networking may become so widespread that you can access the Internet just about anywhere at any time, without using wires. The easy access of emails for business orientated individuals is also a bonus, as urgent messages can be downloaded on the go once the email settings are configured on to the WiFi enabled handset.

The mobile phones market has received a lot of attention lately as several operators across the world have launched various types of handsets which allow users to connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi, the iPhone being the ultimate example.

Mobile VoIP

A new study from a London-based research firm claims that mobile voice-over-IP will become a mainstream form of communication by the end of 2012, based on rapid growth of voice-over-3G wireless users. Disruptive Analysis said its research shows mobile VoIP will eclipse fixed-mobile convergence services that use dual-mode handsets with voice-over-WiFi capabilities.
VoIP has become popular largely because of the cost advantages to consumers over traditional telepone networks. VoIP calls can be placed across the Internet. Most Internet connections are charged using a flat fee structure. Using the Internet connection for both data traffic and voice calls can allow consumers to get rid of one monthly payment. In addition, VoIP plans do not charge a per-minute fee for long distance. For International calling, the monetary savings to the consumer from switching to VoIP technology can be enormous.
Today, Skype, TruPhone and a company called Fring already offer VoIP over 3G smartphones and 3G-enabled laptops allowing users to communicate with other VoIP users via the Internet. This service is expected to provide customers with a cheaper alternative to connecting calls via GSM in the near future.

HSDPA

High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) is a 3G (third generation) mobile telephony communications protocol in the High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) family, which allows networks based on Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) to have higher data transfer speeds and capacity. Current HSDPA deployments support down-link speeds of 1.8, 3.6, 7.2 and 14.4 Mbit/s. Further speed increases are planned for the near future.

4G Technologyhttp://dnld99.blog.co.in/files/2010/01/polymer-vision.jpg

What is fourth generation (4G) mobile?

4G, an acronym for Fourth-Generation Communications System, is a term used to describe the next step in wireless communications. A 4G system will be able to provide a comprehensive IP solution where voice, data and streamed multimedia can be given to users on an "Anytime, Anywhere" basis, and at higher data rates than previous generations. There is no formal definition for what 4G is; however, there are certain objectives that are projected for 4G. These objectives include: that 4G will be a fully IP-based integrated system. This will be achieved after wired and wireless technologies converge and will be capable of providing 100 Mbit/s and 1 Gbit/s speeds both indoors and outdoors, with premium quality and high security. 4G will offer all types of services at an affordable cost.
4G is being developed to accommodate the quality of service (QoS) and rate requirements set by forthcoming applications like wireless broadband access, Multimedia Messaging Service, video chat, mobile TV, High definition TV content, DVB, minimal service like voice and data, and other streaming services for "anytime-anywhere". 4G in principle will allow high-quality smooth video transmission. It will enable fast downloading of full-length songs or music pieces in real time.
The business of 4Gmobile is predicted to be huge. By 2009, this 4Gmobile market will be over $400B. This 4Gmobile technology will dominate the wireless communications, and its converged system will replace most conventional wireless infrastructure.

What will the data rates be for 4G?

At present the download speed for mobile Internet connections range from 9.6 kbit/s for 2G cellular, up to 200 kbit/s (nominally 384 kbps) for the new Vodafone 3G service (mentioned above). However, in actual use the data rates are usually slower, especially in crowded areas, or when the network is "congested".
4G mobile data transmission rates are planned to be up to 20 megabits per second That’s about 10-20 times faster than standard ASDL services.
In terms of connection seeds, 4G will be about 200 times faster than present 2G mobile data rates, and about 10 times faster than 3G broadband mobile. 3G data rates are currently 2Mbit/sec, which is very fast compared to 2G's 9.6Kbit/sec.

Latest Technology in Cars

http://robson.m3rlin.org/cars/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/mercedes-benz_f500_mind_concept_2003_014-copy.jpg

We have come a long way since the inception of automobile, and with all this passing time they have become much more than just a mere mode of transportation for us. More than just ferrying people from one place to another, there have a number of new dimensions added to cars and their development, as people eventually started traveling more and more.
We have come an age when cars were just a simple structure and mechanism, to hi-tech and swanky ones in the present time. With much more attention being paid to passenger comfort, safety, convenience and emission control, we now have cars with superior technology, unthinkable of even three decades back!

Around view monitor
From features like auto dimming of the rear view mirrors and rear view mirrors automatically turning down as one shifts into reverse gear, to rain sensor vipers, from headlights automatically turning to certain angle on the side of the respective turn to assist better visibility, and wash sprays for the headlights, to display screens informing about fuel consumption and the range it can travel with the remaining fuel. From heated and ventilated seats and massaging seats to voice-activated GPS navigation system which helps plan out a convenient route to reach a destination.
But that’s still not all; in fact it’s just the starting of the list, which has a lot to follow. Here’s an insight to what all has been introduced or is about to be introduced in the cars: -
  1. Navigation system: This feature has already been in use in certain parts of the world and is soon making its way into other parts. A navigation system comprises of a user screen fitted in the car’s dashboard and once the user has fed in the destination, this feature helps chalk out the route by giving out verbal directions, and hence it reduces the trouble of finding a place to quite an extent. This feature employs global positioning satellite and can also be connected to cellular phones and PDA’s.
  2.
  3. Economy mode: Just like the way electrical appliances come with the option of power saving, similarly car manufacturers have also devised a way to make cars that can itself assess ways to switch off features like the air-conditioner, etc as and when its not required, thereby saving onto fuel which further means lesser emissions.

  4. Curtain airbags: Though airbags have been in use since a while which have been providing safety basically from the front, the new edition is having curtain airbags which translates into airbags on the sides of the car, fitted in the headliner area, just above the car’s windows, ensuring safety from head injuries for the occupants of the vehicle in case of a mishap.

  5. Black box technology: Just like the airplanes have black box fitted to record the events during flight, which are useful in finding details incase of a mishap, a similar technology is now coming to cars as well! With this technology, the details of the car like speed, location of the vehicle etc, at a certain given time can be recorded.

This can be especially useful while claiming insurance in case of an accident or certain other legal matters.
  6. Run-flat tires: This is more of a safety and convenience feature, which is already available in certain cars. With this feature the tire retains its original shape even in deflated condition, and it can go like that to quite a considerable distance. This can be quite useful especially while driving in emergency case, or at times when immediate assist is not present.

  7. Self-parking feature: This is quite an advanced feature that is going to make its way to the cars, which in simple terms means a car that can park by itself, without the driver being seated inside the car! The user just needs to get off the car right before its about to be parked, and then just by the press of a button the car would move on its own and get parked. This feature really adds a lot to the convenience of the user, especially in tight parking spaces. (See video)
  8. Radars and cameras for safety: Yes the cars are going to be fitted with radars and cameras that would sense a potential hazard and accordingly warn the driver.
    Overtaking sensor
  9. Wi-fi hook up’s: A new technology is being developed that would give information on weather, news and certain other important things with the help of wi-fi system to the car users.
  10. Electrical power supply: A 40-volt electrical system would be provided in the vehicles, which would make it convenient to use various electrical devices.
    Electric socket in cars
  11. Programmable vehicles: With electronic system assistance one can now program the car by choosing the mode in which one wishes to drive, for example one can choose between sporty or luxury drive, or one can also change the ground clearance as required.
    Programmable on board feature

This probably still, might not be end of it all, as manufacturers are still striving their best by putting in efforts in their R&D and trying to create more such amazing features that makes cars, and driving them, very convenient and safe to use.
